This is Jim Garry, the instructor of my Yellowstone Association Institute course. He is a fabulous teacher with apparently unlimited knowledge about all thing Yellowstone. It has been a treat to spend the past few days with him. Here he is explaining about the development of elk antlers. We stumbled onto this specimen on one of our hikes. It is amazing that bull elk will grow their full antler rack in about five months just in time for the rut (late summer mating competition). They shed their antlers each year and then start over again, no matter how large.
