Today is one of many transitions. Jamuna and Abe fly to Dallas for the greatly anticipated music camp DFW-WOW. They have been looking forward to this since July, 2010. Prema is flying to Kansas City where Maya and I will pick her up then return to Ottawa. I'll be collecting my stuff for and early Sunday morning departure for Rapid City. I'll pull in late evening and unload. I'll be leaving early Monday for my much anticipated few days of selfish indulgence in Yellowstone.
Yesterday seemed especially busy because of some scheduling adjustments and the extra preparation for Maya's Sonata performance last evening. I have video of course but no still shots to show here. She did a stellar job. She should very proud to have learned this music in just three days. I said my goodbyes since I'm leaving and won't see these instructors again for a while. Maya still has another week.
Here is Maya with Simon James of Seattle, WA. They are working on polishing Sarasate's Zapateado which Maya will perform as a "show piece" in a few days.
Here is Maya with Mr. Stephen Clapp of The Juilliard School which I have been told is some music school in New York, I think. With them is one of Maya's three (!) collaborative pianists, Hyun Ju Jang. She has been fantastic. Mr. Clapp has been double-fantastic.
Today I did laundry at the coin laundry. Thankfully you can wash and dry clothing there too. I think I may have put two servings of detergent in one machine and none in another. I suppose on average everything will be OK. After I loaded up a few washing machines I walked over to Sonic for a cup of coffee. I received a penny, a nickle and three "state" quarters as change for my two bucks. The three states I received were Texas, Colorado and New York. Since we already go to great music schools in Texas and Colorado I took it as an omen we should try to find a good school in NY. Will start asking around.
Below is my self-portrait for the summer.
